ENGIE supports public sector partners to access PSDS grants

Since the launch of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) in Autumn 2020, ENGIE has helped 10 public sector bodies across the UK secure over £80 million in grant funding. This funding will help the recipients to achieve their net zero carbon ambitions and meet carbon reduction targets, with predicted savings of over 6,000 tonnes of carbon per annum.

The Salix-managed PSDS provides grants for public sector bodies to fund heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures. Phase 1 of the Scheme saw 324 public sector organisations receive funding for 443 projects, valued at £977 million so far. Phase 2 opened on April 7th 2021 and, due to the high volume of quality applications, closed just one week later. ENGIE has helped a key higher education client secure circa £4 million in Phase 2.

ENGIE has supported its public sector partners from the initial application through to project delivery. This involved carrying out feasibility studies, identifying areas where the highest carbon and energy savings could be achieved and producing a net zero roadmap. Tailored plans were developed to get projects off the ground and ENGIE is currently working with a number of the successful organisations to help deliver the projects.

ENGIE’s Energy and Carbon Solutions Director, Kirti Rudra, explained: “The PSDS provides vital funding to help the public sector decarbonise buildings and achieve carbon reduction targets. We are proud to have played a proactive role in helping our partner organisations with this, leveraging our vast experience of carbon-saving projects to deliver maximum benefits.”

About the PSDS

Under the PSDS, public sector bodies can access grant funding to support their energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation measures. Those eligible can apply for up to 100% of the costs for capital energy saving projects that meet the scheme criteria. Organisations can use the funds to make their buildings more energy efficient through the installation of low carbon heating systems like heat pumps, heating controls, glazing and insulation.
