Public sector and businesses to gain sustainability plans and more advice to cut carbon through water, in Zellar and Water Plus partnership

Zellar – an online sustainability tool helping cut carbon footprints and energy bills at businesses, sports clubs, schools and other sites in the UK – has teamed-up with water retailer Water Plus, to drive further progress on carbon reductions, savings and actions for the environment.
Zellar’s sustainability platform helps organisations, including in the health service, schools and businesses, to calculate and understand their carbon emissions and then build an achievable plan to reduce emissions, based on their size and sector. Sustainability actions taken add up to a Zellar score, which those using the platform can share to showcase their great efforts and positive impacts for the environment and communities.
The new partnership will see the multi award-winning expertise of Water Plus being shared through the Zellar platform – and will also see the one-stop sustainability tool highlighted to a wider audience through Water Plus, the UK’s largest business water retailer, which also works with the public sector.
So far, 960 tonnes of CO2 have been saved by organisations using the Zellar SMART sustainability platform, with 7,000 energy checks and 5,152 climate actions completed.*
Michele Marshall-Jackson, Head of Customer Operations at Water Plus, said: “Partnering with Zellar is another way we’re engaging businesses of all sizes to help accelerate sustainability actions and explore and tap into the big opportunities in water, to help increase efficiencies and reduce carbon emissions.
“It’s all about making it easier for our customers to take actions to improve efficiencies and reduce carbon emissions. This partnership is one of the additional actions we’re taking to help progress towards Net Zero and reducing impacts on the environment in the UK, including through increasing water efficiency.”
Following Zellar’s sustainability plan can help the average sports club reduce its energy consumption by up to 33% and unlock estimated savings of up to £4,100. Schools saw their carbon footprint drop by 3.2 tonnes of CO2 last year and save £4,923.*
Gary Styles, Founder and CEO of Zellar, said: “We’re delighted the multi award-winning water experts at Water Plus have become our exclusive water efficiency partner. Together we’ll make it easier for businesses, councils, schools and other organisations to reduce their water consumption and environmental impact.
“By helping organisations to minimise their energy, waste and now water usage; identify and invest in green technology and find biodiversity and volunteering projects, each unique Zellar plan has the power to reduce emissions, running costs and environmental impacts.”
SMEs and those at locations including schools want to take steps to reduce their carbon footprint, but lack the time, money and knowledge to know where, or how, to start. And that’s where the Zellar SMART sustainability platform can help, powering progress on carbon emissions’ reductions.
Every completed action on a Zellar plan is rewarded with points – and these go towards an overall Zellar score that organisations can share, so the outside world can see progress being delivered against commitments to decarbonise and go greener.
More than 1,300 SMEs have saved an average of £889, with a Return on Investment (ROI) of 200% for actions to reduce emissions. More than 100 schools are also already on the Zellar platform.*
A project led by Water Plus saw 200 water audits for a range of businesses, including a hotel, restaurants, cafes and schools and councils also led to a 34.6% average water-saving across more than 40 sites in 2023.
More than 130 tonnes of carbon emissions and 360 million litres of water have been saved in 2023 for a range of businesses and public sector organisations, through work by business water retailer Water Plus . It includes 100 million litres of water (100,000m3 of water) saved for a multi-site business in 2023.**
