Councils, schools and hospital trusts choose Water Plus for progressive water services solutions, to help decarbonisation – through national government framework

Public sector sites have access to further opportunities around water-saving and efficiencies, to drive decarbonisation progress and cut operating costs through CCS RM6306 Lot 3.

Water Plus won the first mini competition to provide a much-enhanced service offering through the new CCS framework. It follows contracts for retail service provision for hospitals, academies and schools – that Water Plus won through a Lot 1 framework e-auction in October  2024.

The Lot 3 service is a progressive service offering, that will enable public sector customers to deliver essential savings on water consumption and costs, while cutting carbon emissions, to drive further progress on meeting their sustainability targets. This further success means a double framework win in a row for Water Plus.

More than 1,500 sites, including hospital trusts, schools and councils, that spend millions of pounds on water a year, can now work with multi award-winning business water retailer Water Plus, as their efficiencies partner.

Water Plus will work collaboratively with CCS and customers to help them understand their current water use and identify additional services available in Lot 3 – like AMR data logger technology, leak detection, and water efficiency audits, to prioritise opportunities to reduce consumption, cost and carbon.

Water is in Scope 3, for carbon emissions, so increasing water efficiency helps with decarbonisation targets and progress towards Net Zero in the public sector.

Water efficiency actions can also lead to less hot water being used at a site, which means less energy needs to be used. Tap efficiency fittings – and other measures – help to do just that.

Tony McHardy, Corporate Managing Director at Water Plus, whose team work across the public sector, said: The services provided through Lot 3, by our team, can unlock substantial opportunities for implementing water management techniques and technology to deliver against the bold carbon cutting visions public sector organisations aspire to.

“There’s also never been a better time to tap into more water-saving measures to help mitigate against the anticipated increases in wholesaler rates from April 2025.

“We’re proud to participate in the latest CCS framework and are excited to work closely with CCS and their customers to deliver a progressive one stop service for the public sector, providing modern sustainable solutions in water management meeting customer requirements.”

Water Plus have a proven track record in helping customers with water management and a water-saving project at 30 public sector sites, in England and Scotland, delivered by the Water Plus team in 2024, identified a £68,000 estimated saving, across 12 months, alongside an estimated reduction of 24 tonnes of CO2e, across 12 months. Water Plus are looking forward to continuing to provide this service under Lot 3.

Tony McHardy continued: More public sector customers are choosing Water Plus, which is great to see. They value and acknowledge our expertise in water management and the savings we can deliver. We’re looking forward to welcoming all new customers – including those moving back to Water Plus – and working with sites to help increase efficiencies, reduce their running costs – and meet sustainability targets.”

CCS values the latest framework’s total value as £2billion.

Water Plus has won two Global Golds for water management, in the Green World Environment Awards 2024 and in 2023, for work with customers around water approaches, increasing efficiencies and cutting carbon emissions.

It has received the Carbon Footprint Carbon Neutral Plus Standard, for its actions around decarbonisation and increasing green canopies, through tree-planting, for UK communities.

Carbon Footprint Carbon Assessed and Carbon Neutral Plus for the 2023-2024 financial year, for Water Plus, for Scope 1 and Scope 2 and Scope 3 elements including employee commuting, work journey mileage, employee homeworking and water use, following carbon reduction actions. Supporting action to decarbonise, equivalent CO2e tonnes of emissions prevented through Carbon Footprint Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) projects.

Carbon Neutral Plus refers to 25% additional CO2e tonnes of emissions prevented, above Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions assessed by Carbon Footprint, alongside increasing green canopies for communities by increasing native UK tree-planting.

The 37% water-saving, mentioned in this article, was across 59 sites, in 2024, including schools and a parish council site, in a larger-scale project delivered in three counties. The water-saving audits and water efficiency kit installed were delivered through Water Plus, in the project that was funded by a wholesaler.
