Water-saving action at public sector sites shows £68k utility saving and 24 tonnes of CO2e carbon saving, expected over 12 months
A public sector organisation is cutting water, energy use and carbon emissions, after a review of its buildings found a £68,000 annual saving on operating costs could be achieved through efficiency actions.
Water-saving visits, organised through business water retailer Water Plus, took place at 30 public sector sites – including in England and Scotland – with a range of water-saving kit installed in 2024. In the approach, the Water Plus expert team analysed and reviewed data for the sites to target – and selected the water-saving kit and technology that would make the biggest impact at each location.
Mark Taylor, Advanced Services Operations Manager at Water Plus, led the project.
He said: “It’s been great to deliver a project on a large-scale that delivers water-savings – and can reduce energy use and carbon emissions, as less water is now being used. We analysed the whole portfolio water consumption, across the estate, to identify 30 public sector sites, where the water-saving opportunities would be greatest.
“We won this project through competitive tender and used the latest technology and best practice approaches to deliver water-savings across the sites.”
The kit installed included tap efficiency fittings, water efficient shower heads and flow and flush controllers, including waterless urinals. Efficiency devices are cutting the amount of hot water needed at the sites too, which reduces energy use.
