Building on net zero successes at InstallerSHOW 2023

Not in my career so far has there been a busier and more important time for the building industry.
When we first launched InstallerSHOW in 2015, it was a completely different event in a completely different landscape. There wasn’t a cost-of-living crisis and spiralling fuel bills, there weren’t legally binding carbon targets to hit, and there wasn’t nearly as much interest from the government, the mainstream media, and the public about the types of white box that heat your home.
Fast forward to 2023, and we’re on the cusp of major changes. As a country, we need to produce less carbon, from buildings, from our cars, from aviation, from manufacturing, from everywhere.
This is creating huge opportunities, but also uncertainty and challenges, and a definitive pathway hasn’t been set out yet.
What’s clear when looking at maximising the efficiency of buildings, is that it takes lots of overlapping considerations. The insulation, the building fabric, the heat loss, the heat source and emitters, and the ability to connect products together like solar PV, EV charge points and hot water cylinders.
This means that the people working on that project, from design to delivery, need to be on the same page, working towards the same goal.

The builders, the heating engineers, the plumbers, the electricians, the architects and designers, the manufacturers and products, the education and advice, the policymakers and advisors, the tools to get the job done and everything in between.
